United Summit Center is a comprehensive mental health center serving seven counties in

Historically, work-related stress was perceived to be a problem only in jobs with high pressure and low pay, such as teaching and social services. Today, this is no longer the case; work-related stress has become a factor in most every type of job, including fast food, retail sales, law enforcement, and healthcare just to name a few.

Suicide is a word that evokes strong feelings in many people - anger, fear, guilt, and confusion. Official statistics show that approximately 30,000 Americans kill themselves every year. In the United States, one person commits suicide every 17 minutes. It's estimated that over 4.5 million people in the United States have been directly affected by a suicide. These deaths cut across all age, economic, social and ethnic boundaries.

Phobias are a fairly common type of anxiety disorder. These types of anxiety disorders take on many forms. Some people are terrified of dogs, even small, friendly dogs. Some can’t fly. Some get physically sick at the thought of speaking in front of a group, even if the group is comprised of their church members. Some become so overcome with fear at the thought of being in public places that they never leave their home.

There are few quality of life issues that are felt more widely and personally than the work-family squeeze. Many of us find ourselves caught between drive to provide the type of life that we want for our families and the desire to spend time enjoying that life with our families. As many of us find ourselves spending more time focused on work and the business of providing for our families, we realize that there is less time to spend with our families. This predicament is probably what gave birth to the expression “quality time.”

The divorce process can be a trying, difficult one for even the strongest adult. The legalities and feelings involved are often confusing and hard to understand. As an adult, you may realize and be prepared for the issues that are forthcoming.  For children, the challenges and emotions involved when parents divorce are much more difficult.
